THE HAGUE, Netherlands- Today (12:30 -19:00) the Plenary of the Dutch Parliament discusses the State of the European Union and their upcoming EU Presidency. In preparation of this, former EU Commissioner Frits Bolkestein wrote an article in the 3rd largest Dutch Newspaper on the currently hotly debated #EqualTreatmentDirective. Dubbing it an “absurd piece of legislation”. Bolkestein calls upon the Dutch Presidency to see it dropped. The main problems identified: subsidiarity and reversal of the burden of proof. He also warns about the Directive’s vague wording and the consequent risk of strategic litigation.
